WII DEVELOPMENT KITS FOR UNDER $1,800?

We're reporting that Kotaku found a post at Wiivolution.com that says someone over at Codename Revolution is reporting that based on an article at N-Sider.com, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has stated that Wii development kits would be sold to developers for as low as $1,732;

"Nintendo President Satoru Iwata along with the Board of Directors answered many questions at a corporate management policy briefing held last week which revealed that the price of the Wii development kits would now cost as low as $1,732. Iwata expects to increase funding for research and development to prepare for launch." -Wiivolution.com

If Nintendo can pull off a development kit for that low of a price, it's sure to attract legions of independent developers to the system. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing depends on what safeguards Nintendo puts in place to prevent shoddy games from making it onto the system as well as preventing the market from being glutted with said product. That said, it's definitely still a move that could pay off with huge dividends for Nintendo.

Yes, it's a lot of links, but here they are; Get the Kotaku article here, the Wiivolution article here, the Codename Revolution article here and the N-Sider article here.
